As my eldest sister was a nurse and my youngest sister is a nurse, for
my own health I had better agree with you, Wolf!!

My younger daughter's a nurse. She's saved a couple of doctors from the
consequences of their less-than-optimal-decisions....

I'm on the local hospital Board, too. We have a very low rate of error,
thank goodness, but errors will always occur. That's why you need
someone at your back. Some procedures can be computerised (eg drips),
and that provides safeguards, as the computer can warn when some safe
range is exceeded.

To bring this a little on topic: I foresee the day when you have a chip
implanted, holding all your medical history. Plus linked to sensors that
monitor blood chemistry etc in real time. And of course synced to your
pad/phone and your doc's office and/or the local ER, where a warning
will come up if your bio-signs turn bad... . ;-)

Or kill the patient. Ever read about the THERAC-25? Dr. Nancy
Leveson wrote a 50-page paper on it. It is very readable. I think
that every programmer should read it or something like it.

Of course, some will make the mistake of assuming that errors can
no longer happen.
