I use the burner that comes with the system, right click on the iso
file and select burn to disc, or some words to that effect.

I have Win7 SP1.

I downloaded an image file from the Internet.

I have used Nero 8 to burn this to a CD.

The burning occurs OK, and the disk has been used
up (Windows Explorer), but any data is invisible
and all Explorer shows in a "Configuration File"
with the text contents:
[.ShellClassInfo]
LocalizedResourceName=@%SystemRoot%\system32\shell32.dll,-21
815
Registry Keys:
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows
NT\CurrentVersion\WinLogon\AllocateCDROMs : 1
(Security Option)

*********************

Why can I not read any data?

Peter
Was this ever solved ?

FWIW, I saw the same symptoms trying to burn the Windows 8
preview ISO....

The IOS was an ISO of a CD/DVD UDF filesystem.

The IOS was an ISO of a CD/DVD UDF filesystem.
According to the table here, both Vista and Windows 7 can read all the
UDF formats (up to and including 2.6).

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Universal_Disk_Format

And this is what "disktype" utility reports for the ISO9660 file.

--- Windows8-ConsumerPreview-64bit-English.iso
Regular file, size 3.338 GiB (3583707136 bytes)
UDF file system
Sector size 2048 bytes
Volume name "<5500><4400><4600><2000><5600><6F00><6C00><7500><6D00><6500>"
UDF version 1.02
ISO9660 file system
Volume name "HB1_CCPA_X64FRE_EN-US_DV5"
Publisher "MICROSOFT CORPORATION"
Preparer "MICROSOFT CORPORATION, ONE MICROSOFT WAY, REDMOND WA 98052, (425) 882-8080"
Application "CDIMAGE 2.53 (01/01/2005 TM)"
Data size 3.338 GiB (3583707136 bytes, 1749857 blocks of 2 KiB)
El Torito boot record, catalog at 22
Bootable non-emulated image, starts at 2147, preloads 4 KiB
Platform 0x00 (x86), System Type 0x00 (Empty)
Bootable non-emulated image, starts at 2149, preloads 512 bytes
Platform 0xEF (EFI), System Type 0x00 (Empty)
Windows / MS-DOS boot loader
FAT12 file system (hints score 5 of 5)
Volume size 1.390 MiB (1457664 bytes, 2847 clusters of 512 bytes)
Volume name "EFISECTOR"

So it's a hybrid disc, with a pretty funny set of boot options.
And the UDF version is actually 1.02, so should be readable by just
about anything.

I wouldn't have thought the hybrid part would hurt anything.
I don't think the burning program has to parse it, just copy
the bootable bits.

Yes, I was aware, it's _supposed to_ be able to.

I was just grasping at straws.....like I said, that was what I
had seen with a UDF issue.

Yes, that downloaded file was corrupt. Windows7
successfully burned and verified the other one I
had.

I've never had an issue with Win7's inbuilt ISO burning ...
I used this Win7 one, but it reported the ISO file
was corrupt. So that's that.

Good. It's nice to know the outcome of it all.
