I still would see if the Realtek link Nibs provided site has a driver to get your LAN port working in XP though.

Sometimes ... other times it may offer to replace your new self installed driver with the older one it's database shows as current.

It's rare, I don't think it's ever happened to me but I've read about at least one person who has.

I like to know what windows updates I'm getting so I have it set to notify only; any updates I don't want I can set to hide.
