I'm under the impression that these 'tags' are associated with the
respective files themselves. For example, your digital camera no doubt
tags your photos with the date they were taken, the camera used, and
maybe some other bits of information. In addition, you can add
additional tags such as lat/long coordinates.
Indeed (and there's at least one freeform tag, the comment field in the
..jp(e)g format).
I don't see a way for the Win 7 Libraries function to add such tags,
Ah, that more or less answers my question (i. e. no, they're not part of
libraries).
but once they are in place by other means, the Library function can
take advantage of them.
Probably only certain types, not tags in general. (If indeed there is
such a thing as tags in general.)

Yes, I can't understand what's difficult about CTRL-C or CTRL-X and
then CTRL-V.

I may have mentioned this before but I also find installing PureText to
paste only ASCII characters to be very useful. You can define a key and
I use CTRL-0.

If you mentioned it before, I must have missed it. I'm glad you
mentioned it this time. I've never heard of it before, but I just
downloaded it, and it looks very useful. Thanks very much.

I tend to be clumsy and press the wrong key, but then there's another
standard shortcut, CTRL-Z

Windows 7 removed several features that were present in previous versions (mainly Windows XP and Windows Vista). Here's a list of key features that were removed or deprecated:

1. User Interface & Personalization

  • Classic Start Menu – Replaced with the Windows 7 Start Menu.
  • Classic Taskbar – The Quick Launch toolbar was removed, replaced by pinned taskbar icons.
  • Windows Sidebar (Gadgets) – The sidebar was removed, and gadgets could be freely placed on the desktop. (Fully discontinued later due to security risks).
  • Windows Flip 3D Shortcut (Win + Tab) – While still present, it was deprioritized in favor of Aero Peek and Snap.
2. Applications & Tools

  • Windows Mail, Windows Calendar, Windows Movie Maker, and Windows Photo Gallery – Removed in favor of Windows Live Essentials (optional download).
  • Windows Ultimate Extras – No longer included (e.g., DreamScene, Hold 'Em Poker).
  • InkBall Game – Removed from Windows 7.
  • Classic Calculator – Replaced with a new version featuring scientific and programmer modes.
3. Networking & System Features

  • Windows Meeting Space – Removed in favor of third-party collaboration tools.
  • DirectSound Hardware Acceleration – Removed in favor of software processing via the Windows Audio Engine.
  • TCP/IP Half-Open Connection Limit – No longer limited as in Windows XP/Vista.
  • Service Pack Installation via Windows Update – Windows 7 relied more on cumulative updates rather than individual Service Packs.
4. Other Legacy Features

  • Classic Login & Shutdown Sounds – Many classic sounds were changed or removed.
  • The "Run" Command in Start Menu – Hidden by default but could be re-enabled.
  • Briefcase – While still present, it was no longer emphasized and was later removed in Windows 10.

Many of these removals were meant to streamline performance and improve security. Anything specific you're missing in Windows 7?

Would you like details on a specific feature that was removed?
