i'm running on my home computer, no domain or network logins. shortly after I login in to my local account I'll get the message "ss_wdg_progress.js Failed To Load" followed by a large white rectangle in the middle of my screen that does not go away. It does get hidden if I open other applications but once I close the application ... there it is. Does anyone know how to stop this from happening?

I uninstalled both the 32-bit and 64-bit, then reinstalled them. It didn't help. It looks like its supposed to be the splash screen for something but it never gets completed and doesn't go away. If I right click on the task bar at the bottom of the screen and click "show desktop", then the rectangle disappears. As soon as I run an application or open a folder, the rectangle shows up again. I checked the task manager and there's nothing running in the Applications section.

Have you tried looking under the startup tab in Msconfig. There is usually a ot of junk in there, placed by third party progams, which is not required to be resident. One such, going back to my first suggestion, is the Java update service. You can check this manually, once in a while, it need not be included in the start sequence.
As an extreme example, I only have my antivirus program ticked as resident under that tab.
