IE 9 with RoboForm

J

Windows 7 Ultimate with IE 9 just installed
Conflicted Program: RoboForm

Not sure this is the correct newsgroup but I can't find a closer match.
IE-9 was just installed on my Windows-7 system. I use RoboForm as my
password manager. Now it does not work correctly. Is anybody familiar with
using RoboForm? When a website login is displayed in the browser, the
RoboForm box comes up briefly then disappears without filling in the
necessary information into the bowser.

Thanks

I know roboform...the version I bought and paid for in a "one time
payment, (you own it...or license to it)," and it will not work with
firefox 4, unless you buy the newer version of roboform. I'm seeing this
same thing in other, "purchase once applications," such as jv16
power tools 2010...not working correctly on windows 7! Sorry, but
if I buy a purchase once software, and they won't update it to
work with a new version of the browser or OS, I'll find something else.

Well it has worked fine for the past year, it just became a problem when I
updated to IE9. This is one of the reasons why I didn't jump into IE9 so
fast when it first came out. I'm thinking it has to do with some of the
configurations in the browser (something in the securities) but not sure. I
hope somebody else has a fix. Thanks for your response.

I had a similar problem. I had been running Roboform strictly from the
tray with previous versions of IE. With IE9, I enabled the browser
add-in & it works perfectly from there. I don't like having it start
each time my browser starts & having more junk on my browser header but
at least it works.

You never mentioned WHICH edition of Roboform that you have (Free,
Desktop, or Everywhere) or even WHICH version. Of course, if you're
using their highly crippled free version then you don't get any support
from them. I'm guessing you have the non-free edition since 10 recorded
logins is so restrictive as to make the free version near worthless
except as demoware.

At http://www.roboform.com/support/news, they don't bother including the
release date for their versions. Except for actual Roboform users (of
which I am not) that remember the release dates, there's no way to tell
from this list if the latest released version of Roboform was
sufficiently after the release date for IE9 to ensure Roboform was
tested to be compatible with IE9. Sometimes Wiki has release dates
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roboform) but not in this case.

Since you had Roboform (unknown edition and version) running before on
Windows 7 with IE7 and now it "does not work correctly" after installing
IE8, it certainly appears to be a problem between Roboform and IE8 - as
long as you have no other add-ons installed or enabled in IE. The IE
newsgroup is over at:

microsoft.public.internetexplorer.general

However, I don't know what they can help you with since the problem's
cause seems to be rooted in Roboform. Siber Systems doesn't bother to
provide their own forums to get help from other Roboform users. I did
find some forum candidates using a Google search:

http://www.google.com/search?q=+roboform++forum

From http://www.roboform.com/platforms/browsers/internet-explorer, they
claim compatibility with IE9 so I have to wonder if the real conflict
isn't between the add-ons you installed into IE9 (Roboform and another
add-on).

You mentioned using Windows 7 Ultimate but never mentioned if it is the
32- or 64-bit version. If you look at the IE page for Roboform, notice
it says it does not support 64-bit versions of IE. So which bit-version
of IE did you configure as the default if you have Win7 64-bit?

J

So what you saying is that you have to enable the Toolbar and click the
links from there.
I did this and it does work that way. Thanks for the work around.
However, this does suck!

Many add-ons have not been updated or recoded to work as 64-bit add-ons
under IE7/8/9 64-bit. Adobe Flash Player is another add-ons that has
yet to release a 64-bit version. You should make IE9 32-bit your
default web browser. There isn't much advantage to using the 64-bit
version, especially since there are few 64-bit ActiveX controls
available.

After further evaluation, I installed the 64 bit version but I'm using the
32 bit version of IE-9. RoboForm still does not work except by enabling the
toolbar. This method is not my preference because I hate toolbars. So
RoboForm is not compatible with IE-9 because the browser see's this as a
security threat. I suspect Microsoft will come out with it's own
Password/Form filler by the time IE-10 comes out (designed for Win-7/Win-8
next year).

I'm still working with RoboForm support. So far, nothing seems to work
except the toolbar as explained above.

As far as I know, if you don't have the toolbar installed, there is no
way to fill forms with user/password. I use it without problems with IE9
and Firefox. Worked fine on older versions also.

I use RoboForm with IE9 on Windows 7 Home Premium and never had problems. I
do use the toolbar though as I find that much quicker than going down to the
notification area and then clicking on the RoboForm Icon then click on
Logins then click on the one you want.

The toolbar is not big and everything is there at once, just click the Login
button then the web site that you want to go too, much quicker.

I'm curious why you guys have to use the Roboform toolbar or the icon
in the notification area. I disable both of those features and simply
let Roboform pop up it's little window when I visit a URL that
requires a login. A single click on 'Fill & Submit' does the trick.
Doesn't that work anymore?

I've not used that option but am quite happy with the toolbar way of working

Isn't that what it's for, though? Naturally, it only pops up for sites

Well, I often go to, oh, let's say Amazon, just to look at something.

And I don't want anyone else automatically logging in to my Amazon
account unless I'm there to slap their wrist with a ruler. I wouldn't
even tell them the name of the program I use, much less let it pop up
by itself.

It's true that the problem is not too real here - the only ones besides
me that have access are either trusted people, burglars, or termites
:)

The program I use requires me to enter a master password before it does
anything. That's fine with me.

Doesn't Roboform comply with Windows NT security standards in honoring
separation of databases by user accounts (so one user account can't get
at the stored logins saved under a different user account)?

C

Char Jackson

Well, I often go to, oh, let's say Amazon, just to look at something.
The vast majority of sites that I visit don't cause the login dialog
to come up just by visiting the site, including Amazon. I think I
remember two of about 300 of my saved sites that initially did that,
but they were easy to configure away.
And I don't want anyone else automatically logging in to my Amazon
account unless I'm there to slap their wrist with a ruler. I wouldn't

Roger that, but I don't have anyone else using my computer, so there
isn't any real risk of someone sitting down and entering sites I don't
want them to enter.
