Dumber Than a Bag of Hammers

Hello to All

Just wondering, other than Alt+F4 and task manager, how do you close an app
from the windows 8 start menu. For instance Video has the open file, next,
previous, play and options buttons but nothing to close the app. It just
sits there consuming 95 mb of memory doing nothing.

Thanks
Giovanni

Best solution: avoid the problem. Install one of the 3rd party shells
that restore the pre-W8 desktop and boot into it. I use Classic Shell.

NB: I also avoid _all_ W8 "apps". None of them does anything better than
the programs I've used since Win2000 days. The social media and news
feed etc crap is of no interest to me, as I have other ways of getting
the information I want and of staying in touch with the people who
matter to me.

If there were some way to utterly remove and destroy these "apps", I'd
do it. Anybody have any advice? Um, I've thought about going back to W7,
and might still do that.

Hi, Giovanni.

In most cases, use your mouse to drag the top of your screen to the bottom.

That might be intuitive for a touch-screen user, but it takes some learning
time to become second nature to a mouse user like me.

FYI, there's a Windows 8 group available from at least some providers
(NIN, AKA news.individual.net, has it).

Some posters there are knowledgeable specifically about W8.

Since your current problem seems to be resolved by the other replies
here, it's moot for now, but you might do well there in the future.

Mouse upper left corner to reveal any open apps thumbnails, rt click a thumbnail and select close.
