Can't open PDF document from browser

I have Adobe Reader installed, but is there a shortcut somewhere so
you can start it manually? It starts up when I double click on a pdf
file, but I cannot see a shortcut to launch it manually? Is there
one?

Once you installed Acrobat reader, the installer leaves an icon on your
desktop so you can start it manually.

Problem is that occasionally these defaults don't stick. It's worth
trying untick >> restart program >> retick >> restart program.k. This
trick works often enough to be worth a try.
OK. I'll give it a try.
Thinking outside the box: Foxit PDF Reader (free) installs a plug-in
that works. Foxit also uses fewer resources than Adobe. Adobe makes some
good software, butIMO its PDF reader isn't its best effort.
I used Foxit PDF reader for quite a while and I was not happy with it. I
replaced it for Acrobat reader. One of the reasons was that with Foxit
it was difficult to copy text out of the PDF file.

Acrobat reader v9 work fine in FF v18 and IE v8/9

Dump Acrobat reader v10 IMHO

Foxit - to copy text go to Tools - Text Selection and then copy and paste

You can certainly make one and put it where you like.

Or type Adobe in the Start Orb's search box and click on Adobe Reader
when it appears.

And in Acrobat reader you can select the text straight away and copy it.
Is a bit easier.

Why? You mean that it's better to use 9 instead of 10 or 11?

That's true. They have preferences, but not this particular one.
Did vs. 9 have such an option?
Versions prior to XI (X, 10, 9) have that option.
Your earlier post said you were using XI.

I think it's a better reader... IMHO

If you want a better PDF reader, in my view you should dump Adobe
Reader entirely and replace it with the much better, and free, Foxit
Reader.

Tried Foxit and dumped it in favor of the much better Adobe Reader.

Yes, I use XI now.
BTW, X = 10.

Your choice, of course, but we completely disagree on this.
I'm OK with that. No two people should agree on everything. For me, the
problem with Foxit was that it choked on way too many pdf's that I wanted to
read, whereas Adobe Reader has always worked 100%. Rather than use two pdf
readers, I simply dumped Foxit and kept the one that worked.
