Hi guys,

Thanks in advance for taking the time to diagnosis my PC.

My problem started after I installed Windows 7 Ultimate x64. I'm constantly getting BSODs everyday. I've gotten more BSODs in the last few weeks than I have in my life of owning a PC. I'm getting random shutdowns as well.

My Specs:

Core 2 Duo E6600 2.4GHz, Socket 775
4x 1gb DDR2 kingston 333MHz
Nvidia GTS-250 1gb
Coolmaster rs-550 PSU
5 SATA HDDs

Everything is stock. No over-clocking. I've included everything I think is needs to diagnose the situation as I am unable to find out what the problem is, and it's feels like I'm finding a needle in a haystack.

Hi Cigaweedz and Welcome to the Forum.

STOP 0x000000C4: DRIVER_VERIFIER_DETECTED_VIOLATION
Usual causes:
Device driver - see parameters for more information.

STOP 0x000000D1: DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
Usual causes:
Device driver.

Your dump files from the 5th gave either of the above stop error codes.

Your latest dump file lists anodlwfx.sys as the probable cause. This is your ALPHA Networks Filter Driver.
Old and incompatible drivers can and do cause issues with Windows 7, often giving false error codes.

As a Priority:

sptd.sys Tue Nov 23 11:47:37 2010 The sptd.sys driver is notorious for causing BSOD's with Windows 7. It's a driver used and installed along with Daemon Tools and Alcohol 120 which you'll also have to uninstall.
Then use the correct (32bit or 64bit) download from Duplex Secure - Downloads to uninstall the SPTD.SYS driver.
Make sure to select the uninstall button! DO NOT SELECT INSTALL!!

Outdated Drivers. Update:

ADIHdAud.sys Thu May 21 09:21:06 2009 SoundMAX Digital HD Audio Driver. O.E.M.

ALSysIO64.sys Sun Apr 19 20:41:04 2009 Core Temp - CPU temperature monitor. If you cannot update, it may be better to uninstall it for now.

DRIVER_VERIFIER_DETECTED_VIOLATION (c4)
A device driver attempting to corrupt the system has been caught. This is
because the driver was specified in the registry as being suspect (by the
administrator) and the kernel has enabled substantial checking of this driver.
If the driver attempts to corrupt the system, bugchecks 0xC4, 0xC1 and 0xA will
be among the most commonly seen crashes.
Arguments:
Arg1: 0000000000000091, A driver switched stacks using a method that is not supported by
the operating system. The only supported way to extend a kernel
mode stack is by using KeExpandKernelStackAndCallout.

Let us know how it goes. If you get further problems with blue screens, attach your new dump files and details and we'll move on from there. We may have to play about with your RAM set up.

Thanks for looking into this, Elmer. I'll update and remove all that you have mentioned. Let's also see where we go from here.

Funny thing is, I've never had a problem with x86 as I had 4GB but BIOS showed 3GB, so I was just using 3GB. Ever since I've updated my RAM output to 4GB in BIOS and using x64, all these problems have come up.

I'm still getting random shutdowns and BSODs.

I've included 3 new dumps from the 7th March. Also updated my list of drivers. I'm pulling out all my hair trying to figure out what the problems is.

STOP 0x000000D1: DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
Usual causes:
Device driver

STOP 0x0000007F: UNEXPECTED_KERNEL_MODE_TRAP
Usual causes: Memory corruption,
Hardware (memory in particular), Overclocking failure, Installing a faulty or mismatched hardware (especially memory) or a failure after installing it, 3rd party firewall, Device drivers, SCSI/network/BIOS updates needed, Improperly seated cards, Incompatible storage devices, Overclocking, Virus scanner, Backup tool, Bad motherboard, Missing Service Pack.

Your latest dump file lists ntkrnlmp.exe as the probable cause. This is a Windows System file and for it to be the cause of your crash is highly unlikely.
Old and incompatible drivers can and do cause issues with Windows 7.

As a Priority:

The following drivers are still outdated. DO NOT! use the Device Manager or Windows Updates for updating your drivers. Use your PC/Mobo/Hardware/Software Mfr.

I mentioned your RAM before as, although the timings are correct (to me!!) you have a matched pair and two singles. This can cause problems on Windows 7.
I'd suggest a couple of things, once the drivers are sorted.
Run Memtest86+ to make sure the RAM is OK.
Run Memtest86+ overnight, after your computer has been off for about an hour or two so it has a cold start. Let it run for at least 7 passes / 6-8 hours. If errors appear before that you can stop that particular test.
Note!! Any time Memtest86+ reports errors, it can be either bad RAM or a bad Mobo slot. Test RAM sticks individually. When you find a good one then test it in all slots. Post back with the results. If the drivers are up to date and your RAM checks out OK, You may have to run Driver Verifier** to "force" the rogue driver into a causing a BSOD. You really need to let it do this five or six times. A pattern is being looked for.
Be aware that Driver Verifier may crash the PC before you can log in. This will mean you may have to go into Safe Mode to disable it, or, worse case scenario, Safe Mode with Command Prompt and disable it that way.

Try running with just the matched 2Gb pair to see if it settles.

** IMPORTANT

If the Driver Verifier finds a faulty driver, it will result in a BSOD.
Before using Driver Verifier, make sure to create a restore point.
After re-start, you may not be able to log on to normal Windows.
• Boot into SAFEMODE
• Select "System Restore"
• Choose the restore point that you created.
For Driver Verifier status - type verifier /query (in a cmd/DOS screen)
To turn Driver Verifier off - verifier /reset then re-boot.

See:- Using Driver Verifier.

I am suspicious of your memory. Your sticks are relatively old at this point, and you're using a configuration that isn't necessarily "regular."

Thanks for the update, Elmer. Will do what needs to be done. Some of the drivers are not compatible with x64. I've never had this problem when I was on x86 with 3GB. I decided to use x64 cos I had an extra stick of 1 GB RAM. Then *BOOM*, problems after problems. lol.

@Elmer and Thrax

I believe it could be a faulty RAM as well.

The Memtest86+ states:
Distorted graphics on the screen. (Which has happened when I bought a new graphics card - GTS 250 that I upgraded from a 7950 GT which fried. I was on the x86 at that time. The graphics were getting distorted while on x86 with GTS 250)

Crashes or Blue screens during normal operation of the system (emails, web surfing etc.) (Hell yeah)

I've only recently finished a Memtest86+ with 4 sticks at 10 Passes. No problems. I'll try the test with individual sticks and see what happens.

What do you mean by that please?

The sticks are not from the same batch, I suggest you leave those in slots 1 & 3 and remove the other two from slots 2 & 4.

Will the my system work better if I went out and bought a set of RAM sticks from the same batch?

Did you say that the system has actually been shutting down on you? If that is the case, I would look to your power supply. This is not something that can be caused by a bum Windows install, or bad memory--those would just cause the PC to freeze.

Graphics distortion when going to a higher-power graphics card is also indicative of a failing video card or a failing PSU. Given the other symptoms, however, only one culprit overlaps: that power supply.

As for my memory concern, I was saying that you're using multiple stick sizes, and your memory is old. Some sticks just don't play well together with mixed sizes/timings/etc., even though--technologically speaking--there should be no hurdle.

I thought it was the PSU as well but I have a Cooler Master "RS-550w-ALCY"..

Using the PSU calculator found on Google, I'm using 375w.

Maybe I should get a new PSU and see if that's the problem.

Got a new PSU Corsair HX-850 today. Let's see if the PSU was the cause of all the problems.
