How did you manage that?

I'm not at all sure.

Uninstalling and re-installing MSE fixed it for a while once.
Are you using MSE V2 with engine V3 ?
Maybe CCleaner removed something that was upsetting it.

I've seen bad behavior from people who say their nym is their real name and
those who don't. Content is what's important, not your name. As I quoted the
Bard, and you conveniently snipped:
"What's in a name? A rose by any other name would smell just as sweet".

Actually, as you misquoted the Bard...

"What's in a name? That which we call a rose
By any other name would smell as sweet."

Answer: Absolutely nothing unless it's real and stands for something. I've
been using the name my parents gave me for 51 years and I try to live up to
the committment of carrying that name. Mom always said..."don't do anything
you wouldn't want to read about on the front page of the newspaper." In your
case I guess you could always just change your alias.

Avast! is a bit resource intensive to, although about the same as
AVG was around 3-4 years ago. I see Avast! slowly creeping the
same direction as other malware boatware as well though.

That is probably true - just about every software package piles on
questionable features to make it look like they are advancing and
staying competitive with their peers. Fortunately, Avasts extra
features can easily be disabled. I have mine pared down to the two or
three services I think are important, and have turned the others off.
In this mode it seems to use a reasonable amount of resources.
