Atheros Communications - What is it?

I was reviewing my Add-ons and see that Atheros Communications, Inc is
in there and enabled. I don't know what this is - searching the
Internet was of no help! Can anyone tell me what this addon is and if
it is really necessary or can I disable it?

I'm running Win7 64 bit and IEv10

Thanks for any insights.

Which Web did you search? When I Googled for "atheros
communications" (with quotes) I got plenty of hits.

This is probably the onboard ethernet interface. If you need that
connection, you do not want to disable it.

Using WikiP as my search engine and using "atheros" as the keyword
without quotes, the only page to pop up begins with:

"Qualcomm Atheros is a developer of semiconductors for network
communications, particularly wireless chipsets."

I don't assume WikiP is absolutely infallible and the One True Word
but that page seems pretty solid.
It seems fairly likely that "Atheros" is legitimate.
