Go for it. I bought a Dell Studio 8100, and it came with Works. The only
issues I had were my QuickBooks 2000 and Quicken 2000. They wouldn't work
and were replaced. But the data converted with no problem.

Keep in mind; people do what you want to do by the thousands a day. It's
no big deal.

Remove everything of Windows Live 2011 in Add/Remove Programs, then install
what you want of Version 14.

I've just tested for you running MS Work 9 on Vista and Windows 7 64 bit.
Works 9 opens any Word or Works 7 & 9 documents originally saved
in 90. using word 97, Office 2000, 2003 and 2007.
BTW No MS Work come with OS - it is added as an extra only by
PC / laptop maker. It's done by HP and Dell for sure, (probably Acer
too).
If you buy Win 7 and install it yourself - it comes without any additional
aplication. Even Windows Live Mail (which I hate) is not install by
defautl.
