Putting an image on the Win7 explorer folder.

To help sorting images into their folders, can I
put a sample image on to the folder in the LH pane
of explorer.
I can do it with an ico creator but this takes a
long time.

I need something to "save as *.ico" and then I can
insert the image directly on to the folder.

Irfan can save as ico.
The ico file size will be the same as the original so
use Irfan to reduce the size and color before converting.

With PMView Pro you can set the icon size. Worth a look IMO:
http://www.pmview.com/

I've used it since OS/2 days. Features overlap with Irfanview, so I use
both (and XnView, too, free version). These three programs meet about
95% of my image proc needs. I also have Elements, but rarely use it.

FWIW a 64x64 BMP file can be renamed to .ICO and it will display as desired.

Win 7 and beyond can use 48x48 and 256x256 icons.
The 256x256 icons look really good.

Thanks, this looks good. And is there any way to
increase the folder-icons size in the left-hand
side of Win Explorer? I want to use them as
pigeonholes to store photos. I do this now but
its hard on the eyes. Peter

Thanks, I have the Axialis icon software and I use
this for desktop icons.

I do not know how but I bet someone here does.
It might be good to start a new thread for that question.
