Prescription to dump Win 7 Explorer ?

N

Nil

Exactly my experiences too. Thanks for the support :)
Mine, too, although as I recall (I'm not at my Win7 machine right now),
if you scroll way over, you can click in the right-most columns and
paste, create a folder, etc. It's not very convenient.

Windows 7 Explorer has a bunch of annoying quirks that makes it
frustrating to use. I hope Microsoft listens to user's complaints about
it and refines it in future service packs.

There is no space. Wherever I right click I end up selecting a file before I
paste. Admittedly this sometimes doesn't seem to matter but sometimes it
does and weird things happen.
It sounds like you have the next column shoved left so that it butts
up against the filenames. Slide the second column over to the right a
bit to give yourself some space in which to click. You don't need
much, but you need at least a little.

Sorry to push in but one thing I don't like about the new explorer in
Windows 7 is that lack of any obvious place to right click when I
want to
right click and paste some files into a folder.
You do that the same as always. I use the white space between the
filenames and the next column to the right.

What are you people talking about? Explorer works the same in regards to
right-clicking in an open area on the screen, the white space, and
pasting a file in a folder.

It works the same way in this area in Win 2k, XP, Win 2k3, Vista and Win
7 the O/S(s) I have used over the years. I go out to the far right on
the screen and right-click to paste a file in the folder. I have never
had an issue with this on any of the Windows O/S(s).

I've never had an issue either but I'm left handed!

Totally agree, it works that same as always, although I've never tried
going all the way out to the far right to do anything. I just use that
big old open white space between the filenames and the size, which are
column 1 and column 2 in my case. (I mention that because the columns
can be reordered, of course.)

There is no gap in Windows 7.
When you select a file the highlighted bar goes right across the explorer
window through filename, filetype, date, etc and through any gaps.

Then go out to the far right and do it then. :) I have never attempted
to do what you are doing. I always go out to the far right and
right-click and paste. And I don't click on a file to do the paste into
the folder, if that is what you are talking about. I go to the far right
and right click. :)

I agree, also. There are a very few things that I would like to have seen
carried over from earlier versions (such as the tool bar customization), but
I find copy and paste to be the same as before.

That's just 'row highlighting' to help you see which row your mouse is
on. If you're in the white space between columns, you can ignore the
highlighting and do your right-clicking there.

Simply r-click in a blank area in the pane, same as before.

I am totally peed off with the present Win 7 Explorer.
I vastly prefer the Win2000 Explorer.

Any possibility of dumping the present crappy Explorer.
It is easily the worst 'feature' of Windows 7.

Really fun when you are trying to paste a punch of folders into a windwo
that is all folders.

Paste them into the parent folder.

Seriously, you people act like don't know how to use a computer. You
people act like you don't know how to use Windows. And you people act
like you don't know how to use Explorer. Nothing has changed from Win 2k
to Win 7 in how Explorer works on pasting files into a folder. I don't
know what you people are looking at.

Doesn't work at all.

Paste isn't even on the menu if you right click there.

The most annoying quirk to me is that if I navigate in the left-hand
pane to a target folder, opening subfolders as I progress towards my
target, once I stop navigating, the results in the right-hand pane, the
left-hand pane suddenly scrolls back to the root of the drive I was
navigating. So if I want a further refinement of my session I have to
start again at the root.

Very frustrating.

Ignore the light color highlighting. That's just shows what
file/folder you would choose if you left clicked. Even though a file
or folder is lightly highlighted, right click. You'll find your paste
option in the popup menu
..

My thanks to everyone who posted answers.

If I use one of the substitutes e.g.

http://classicshell.sourceforge.net/,
Directory Opus or
www.zabkat.com

Would I install one of these programs before dumping the Win 7 Explorer
and, then how to get rid of it
As mentioned, you can't really "dump" the Windows Explorer component.
However, when you install xplorer2, you can set the option for it to
be used in place of Explorer whenever you open a folder. (There's a
place in the program to turn that off and on at will, but I don't
remember offhand where that is. If you need the info, let me know and
I'll find it for you.)

Thanks Steve.

I downloaded it and it seems to work nicely. I'll probably need some
time playing with it soon to understand it.

Have a great weekend :)
