Here is my version of this same basic thread as yours. At the time I had had W7 for about a month and as I mentioned I was having an issue with Logitech not supporting their old hardware, my beloved trackball.

It's now been another 7 weeks and my mouse is working (no thanks to Logitech). I still haven't installed a lot of my DOS games, though I did install Jazz Jackrabbit, Wacky Wheels, and Hocus Pocus under D-Fend / DOSBox on my 11yr old nephews laptop. Since you mentioned Duke3D today I tried to run that with no success so I will probably try the 32bit ported version (which should also run fine in my 64bit).
So just as they told me in my post, I will tell you to
give it some time.
I will also tell you, you probably won't get what you were expecting from this thread, just as I didn't in mine. Mostly I think it is because once the person has their hardware working and can run the software they need then they move on to tweaking W7 how they want. They customize the icons, they like the Aero or they turn it off, they get used to the non-Windows95 Start Menu (or a few use the workarounds to make it look like "classic start"). They start using it and making it look how they want and it becomes home. And to be happy in your home you don't go around constantly thinking about what's wrong with it; you're quite content with a cold beverage in front of the big screen TV. If you even consider the problems, it's only when you use your nagging wife's "Honey Do" list as a coaster for your drink.
