I've used ImgBurn for years. I should think that will move ok to Win8.

Thanks

I will probably use something like that but since there was a working one
with Win7, I thought it should stick with W8 ... :/

I have ImgBurn installed under Windows 8 Pro here. I haven't burned
any disks with it yet, so I can't be sure, but I can attest that it
does at least start and looks normal.

Thanks, I'll check that.
Did you try looking for "sdclt.exe" ?

That's what was powering the Windows 7 backup. The Windows 8
backup involves something about "versions" or "file versions",
so it's some sort of gadget that keeps multiple versions of
files. The System Image capability provided in Windows 7
is "on the way out", to be replaced by another concept.
But it's possible the executable is still there, in which
case you can have a look for it.

The first command here, may cause a familiar control panel to appear.
But there is no guarantee clicking the buttons in that
will work. The second one, is for file by file backup,
and advances you to a file dialog where you can specify
what to back up. The options for this program are
not documented, and experimenters have been using
a hex editor to find the command line parameters for it.

sdclt /configure
sdclt /configure /target

But that's only going to work, if sdclt.exe is still present.

sdclt /configure, should give you this. And if the
"Set up backup" button is not working, adding /target
to the command will take you there.

Yes.
Look in Control Panel and click on Windows 7 File Recovery.
- included for doing what you want (creating a system image and backing up data on available drives). Also included for backward
compatibility with earlier versions of Windows.

If all you need to do is backup Libraries, contacts, desktop, favorites, and SkyDrive data then Control Panel also includes another
option called File History.

Both can be run on a schedule or manually once setup. If using both, ensure you create your first 'File Recovery' backup prior to
enabling File History.

Hi Paul,
On Windows 8:
- Windows 7 Backup and Restore is called Windows 7 File Recovery and available via the Control Panel.

Windows 8 also includes a different mechanism for backing up Libaries, Contacts, Desktop, Favorites, and SkyDrive data. Also
available via Control Panel as an item labeled File History.

Additionally shortcuts to either can be created and placed on the Start Screen, Quick Access Toolbar, desktop etc..

Thanks, that's what I was looking for, I must get use to the removal of the
Start menu.
