letter, so for example you would have used "ews.software.readers" and it
would show in the results.

One of the free news services I use has 46,877. The one I pay about
$1/month for has 24,877. That's quite enough for me, especially
considering that most of those have nothing worth my while going on in
them and/or are not in English. There's no time or motivation for me to
make use of 111036 newsgroups.

use has nothing to do with it. What *is* important is that the more
newsgroups that are available, the more likely it is that we can find
newsgroups of interest to us.

How many of those 111036 groups do you suppose are warez-filled binary
groups, filled with nothing but spam, or just plain empty and inactive?
