I have thought of that many times. That does not however mean that I shouldn'
try to solve the problem

Interesting. I have Num Lock permanently turned on (I use the other
arrow keys). I have Caps Lock permanently turned off and the key's
function disabled (I don't ever want to hit it by accident and not
realize it, since as a non-typist, I look at the keys, not the
screen). And I don't worry about the Scroll Lock key at all, since its
location is such that the risk of accidentally hitting it is so
slight.

So I'm not interested in seeing their status displayed.
OK, I guess your reaction, in company with Stan Brown's, means my
suggestion is no good :)

I had better uninstall my keylock status program right now.

You probably understand this and were just kidding. But just in
case...

I said "interesting" and I meant it. I was merely pointing out how
different we were in this respect, not claiming that my way was better
than your way.

We are *all* different.

I was only teasing. That app is useful for me, since I seem to be unable
to figure out for myself that CapsLock (or whatever) was accidentally
engaged :)

As I thought. Thanks for the acknowledgement.

It was the least I could do, after having some fun at your expense...

I really didn't mean it to be at anyone's expense, but in Usenet you
can't see the twinkle in my eye :)

I would recommend looking at Toggle Keys under Accessibility, or
whatever Toggle Keys and Accessibility are called under 7; it's a
built-in way of detecting exactly that.

I had completely forgotten that. But for it to succeed for me, I have to
learn to count to 1 modulo 2.

No, I'm wrong - I just played with it. The tone is high when the lock is
set and low when it's cleared.

But I do have to manage to know which key I accidentally pressed. All
three keys use the same pair of tones[1].

At least I'm not tone deaf :)

[1] The best deal is to keep both the tray display and Toggle Keys on.
Then I am warned audibly when I press the wrong key, and I have a
readout of which key it is. OTOH, it seems to be CapsLock at least 95%
of the time here.

OK, this dead horse is sufficiently flogged now.

You're correct. Everyone must configure their system in exactly the
same way as Ken and I do, though that may cause some confusion when
Ken and I do things differently. :)

Shouldn't cause any confusion here, I'll just keep in mind that you do
things differently. Ken & I use the same browser also the same
newsreader. :)

I see that you're using Agent, but you're using 7.0 and I never
bothered to upgrade from 6.0.

And do you use Maxthon? 3.0?

Thank you. You have no idea how helpful that is.

(I had fun saying that!)

As a long time Agent user I upgraded to Agent 7 more or less as a
donation, because Agent 6 was still working perfectly.
And do you use Maxthon? 3.0?
Maxthon Ver 3.4.1.1000

Prior to Maxthon 3, I had been using Opera 5.15 which was then a paid
for browser. I upgraded Opera through numerous free versions for years
until I became aware of Maxthon, when I switched.

I didn't because I didn't want to go to the trouble of upgrading
unless there were any significant improvements for me. Since I didn't
see any improvements, I didn't upgrade.

Maxthon Ver 3.4.1.1000

3.3.9.2000 here. But since 3.4.1.1000 is now available, I'm about to
do an upgrade. Thanks for letting me know about it.
