IE8 Open PDF files Externally

Running Windows 7 and IE8, how can I get IE to open PDF files outside
the browser? I already have Adobe Reader X set correctly (EDIT ->
Preferences -> UNcheck Display PDF in Browser) but when I click on a PDF
link, a window opens in IE, I hear the beep and it immediately closes.
I don't get a yellow ribbon/bar giving me a popup warning or anything.

Open up adobe directly, then under one of the options, you
can specify whether you want adobe to work within a broowser
window or outside it.
Once you disable adobe, the external lnk for pdfs takes over.
I use FOXIT pdf reader, which is much faster than adobe.
If you do, check its installation options, because that one
will also try to run within the browser window, but it fas an
installation button which can be cleared.
I also found an adobe plugin in my browser(firefox), which i disabled.
I keep an adobe button on my desktop, just in case something failes.

Already tried that.

Try right-clicking the link and use "save link as".

Fyi...the toggle option to choose display pdf in browser is no longer present in Adobe XI.
To disable viewing pdf files in the browser one must disable the Adobe add-ons in IE.

There is no Link.
Check out this screen shot. I enter a vehicle's VIN and up pops the
vehicle's original window sticker in PDF format.

If I disable the "open in browser" option in Adobe Reader X, after I
enter the VIN and hit submit, all I head is the "bloop" of Internet
Explorer refusing to open a popup. I even have the popup blocker in IE
disabled.

I think I need to find a better PDF reader.
