Glary Utilities or Crap Cleaner -- which registry cleaner is saferfor Windows 7 x64?

A vote for CrapCleaner, then. This is the first time I've tried Glary
Utilities. It seems like a polished program, but I wanted some feedback
before tying it on something so critical. I will probably go with
CrapCleaner, which I've used before, and will of course back up the
registry. The only trouble with that is, if your registry is really hosed,
will Windows even run to restore the back up?
It will attempt recovery, but if you've royally messed up the Registry there
are no guarantees of success.

CCleaner doesn't "clean" Registry bugs like some of the others claim to (and
badly mess it up).

Did you make your system repair disk and a system image disk? I reckon
that ought to cover any scary eventuality.
Yeah, I thought that too. It didn't. Complete Reinstall.

CCleaner has been safe so far, but I've seen reported problems using the
Registry Cleaner part of it with W-7.

Windows 2000 had a problem that caused Microsoft to release RegClean (SP4
fixed the problem), and every software company jumped on the idea.
Personally, I wouldn't recommend any of them with W-7.
I have run it successfully. I downloaded the latest version and I am not
the only one to have run it successfully.

Well, like I said, all I had to do was restore the keys that were
deleted using the backup that CCleaner created. Much easier than a
reinstallation since all my settings were restored, also.

I'm thinking I'd have the same experience that you had, since I'm
using Logitech SetPoint. No point in putting myself through that,
even if it is a minor problem. I will keep using the other useful
features of CrapCleaner. It's a great free program.

NONE. I've been a hard-core fan of registry cleaners for years, never once
had a problem. Not ever. Using RegSeeker on my x64 totally hosed it.
Even restoring the backups didn't help much; I had to do a total reinstall.

I use RegCure and have never had any problems. Been using it on Vista and
now Windows 7 on 3 computers.

Lucky you. Like I said, I've always used a registry cleaner, never had a
problem, but that experience made a true believer out of me.

I'll be installing a new mobo and doing a new install shortly. Maybe I'll
run RegCure first just to see what happens.

OK, that's scary. Definitely a good reason not to rush into
cleaning the registry on Windows 7 x64.

I've been using ccleaner on Windows 7 x64 since the RC was free, and then
the released version since about 3 weeks after it went retail. No
problems, but then I do a full backup about once a month. (Also never
had problems with XP x64 once they supported it. ~3-4 years ago)

AL, don't forget, even turning on the computer can trash a Windoze OS.
(not often anymore, but it can happen!) You just going to leave it off
all the time?

I know this is an old thread, but the latest Windows magazine, has on its
free disc of Windows etc freebies, a copy of CCleaner!

I know Dave and I use it without problem, but I thought it might be of
interest to those who are unsure.

Yes, we all know that. That was not my point, as anyone who had
followed the original thread would know.
Do we all know that? It didn't sound like you did, but if you say so,
I'll take your word for it.

"Anyone"? I just re-read the thread and I don't see that the cost of
the program was ever mentioned, so I have no idea what your point is.

Uhuh we have a clever clogs :( If you took the trouble to read the thread,
you would have taken the point.

It was NOTHING to do with cost!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Look at the subject
line, please! My point was that if it were being given on a free cd from
the Windows magazine, it might be trusted.

Now.. did you just come here to show off or to start a row? In either case
you are wasting your time.

I think that's a very naive attitude. CCleaner is quite capable of
hosing up your system, whether a magazine is passing out outdated
copies of a free utility or not.

Now, if you had actually, personally compared the two programs in
question, you might be able to make a point, but it seems that you
haven't done that.
