Does anyone know of a free application for finding out what your chipset temperature is? I had/have used AIDA64 but it's a trial version and once it expires that's it....then your forced to buy to continue using it.

I have both of those and neither one has the Asus MCP or chipset temps. Thanks for the suggestions. I did manage to find one. HWiNFO64, if anybody is interested in it, here's the link.

I figured one of them would. My motherboard has a led light that states it's current temp.

From what I have read on the web, most of the software that reads the "chipset" temperature are stating it as the "motherboard" temperature. Which is usually a few to several degrees higher that the CPU temperatures since usually there is no fan cooling the heatsink array attached to the chipset.

I'm not even sure to trust any of that type of software fully. You're probably better off with a multi-channel fan controller that has actual temperature probes that get place in the area of which fan that wire is plugged into on the controller. HWMonitor states my SSD as being 128 degrees. It's awfully funny my case has 2 fully clean 120 mm. fans in front of the 2 hard drive cages. Speccy continually states that my 2 Western Digital 1.0 TB. Caviar Black hard drive's are 5400 rpm. They're both 7200 rpm hooked with sata 2 cables to sata 3 ports 2 & 3. Both software's are obviously wrong in both area's. Especially considering temperature wise, if the ssd was that hot, it would crash during the benchmark's I've run. I've run all Crysis benchmarks, 3DMark 11 Advanced @1920 x1050, PCMark 7 Advanced (every test selected), AMD Overdrive's Benchmark & Stress Test, AS SSD, ATTO and Crystal Mark Disk Info. My pc hasn't crashed or hiccupped on any of them with just the cpu's multipliers changed for a 3.6 GHz. and 3.8 GHz.Turbo Core overclock. The pc is perfectly stable. Once I get a Corsair H80 heatsink to replace the Zalman CNPS 9900A LED heatsink, I'll up those 2 multipliers a bit more. Maybe 4.0 GHz and 4.2 GHz. Turbo Core.

All the tests I've run are always within a degree of each other regarding temperatures.

Sounds like your motherboard is causing strange reading results to me. The software is only as good as the motherboard and it's chipsets and sensors sending the info.

I don't believe the software is wrong in your case or it's getting misleading input. Of course you're in the AMD camp and things are different there.

The reason I state this is because your HDD speeds are being misreported too. Have you tried HD Info Pro to see what it reports?

As far as Speccy and the hard drive's, it's Speccy. PCWizard detects the specs correctly. Have a link for HD Info Pro ? Bing and Google came up empty and listed HD Tune .

The SSD temperature thing is just because the software doesn't understand how to interpret the response from the SSD. Most software still expects to find HDDs and isn't written to support newer devices like an SSD. HD Tune is the best one so far, but even HD Tune will report some SSDs as being 128C.

For the actual "chipset", either the motherboard maker's own system utility software or speedfan are best. You might actually need to try both, that way you will know which temperature in speedfan is the motherboard/chipset temp.

For some reason SpeedFan list my MSI 890FXA-GD70 mobo. According to HWMonitor my temp's are fine. I've got a 4 channel and a 6 channel fan controller laying around that could be put in if the temp's ever were an issue. GPU 47 degrees, CPU 30 degrees, System 441 degrees, TMPIN1 36 degrees.

Sometimes a mobo will have sensors on it that are not connected to anything. Like my Asus M4N78 Pro..I have according to speedfan a temp reading listed as temp 3. -128C, that's negative 128C. While using AIDA64, there is nothing close to that temperature. Then again, it could be a software issue.

Thanks , I downloaded the trial vversion. I'm not goiing to be purchasing it though. I don't really need it. I know my hard drives aren't overheating. My case has 7 fans if you count the heatsink.
