100% Backup Program

Char Jackson

Is this an Acronis idiom, or is this generally true of all drive
imaging programs?
I would think any backup program would be the same.
What kind of repair operations are typically necessary? I'm still on
XP, and am fine with using Recovery Console if necessary.
I think it's the fixboot command, but it might be the fixmbr command.
It's been awhile and I'm too lazy to look it up.

Either way, you should do what you can to test your backup to make
sure it will work when you need it.
I cannot emphasise Char's point highly enough. I had backup images
(Acronis) on an external HD, so was not concerned when my PC HD failed.
I should have been - the bootable CD did not work! Fortunately I was
able to download a trial version of ATI and create a bootable disk from
that, which allowed me to restore the latest image.

There has been a number of mentions of Acronis in this thread - just a
warning for any new user of this programme - the latest version (2012)
is subject of very fierce comment in the Acronis forums from customers
as to usability and reliability and lack of support , worth a read, and
almost impossible to remove completely from your computer if you want to
I gather. - I use the earlier 2010 and 2011 versions successfully
and would suggest sticking with those perhaps ... I tried a laptop
restore using a v2012 bootable rescue disk and had a number of failures
and no successes - not something you need to see, also aspects of the
2012 interface are more obscure than the earlier versions IMO, though it
looks prettier!
NB - earlier versions do not recognise backup files produced by later
versions by design.... C+

I have downloaded acronis true image 2012, try and buy version, I have
done what some of you suggested, i have done a bootable cd and also
image backup of complete c: drive on another spare hard drive i have,

One thing i am not sure of is if for any reason my hard drive fails (
the one with original programs, activation etc on) and i have to
rep[lace failed hard drive with new one, Do i have to install win 7 and
acronis program first before i can use the backup image from spare hard
drive .
No!

You boot from the Acronis rescue disk and it restores from your backup.

When the restoration is complete, you boot as you did before.

NOTE TO OP: If you forgot to make a rescue disk (you didn't forget, did
you? If so, do it NOW!) you can boot from the Acronis CD.
