Not 100% sure, but I think that is a modem, not a router. Do you have any other hardware to access the intenet?

Hey,
First of all I would like to thank everyone for their support and time!
I tried the Quick Installation Guide which didn't prove to be helpful....
And Secondly, I tried the Wifi-Configuration webpage but it won't open.....
I guess I have a modem not a router...

Going back to your original post. The link to the installation guide, which was in Cliffords post, seems to give a fairly straightforward way to put in a password?

What you have is a modem and router in one. Router has both ethernet connection and wireless capabilities.

How are you connected to it, with an ethernet cable or via wireless?

I have read the installation guide very carefully but it tells how to ask for the password from the ISP.
I have my PC connected to the router via an ethernet connection.

Are you saying that you can not connect to the internet with this modem/router setup?

Or are you trying to configure the router? If so, the defaults for nearly all routers are:

User: admin
Password: password

Type those in and you should be able to get into the router's configuration pages.

What EXACTLY is going on here?

I have a SpeedStream Gateway and the username and password is:
username: admin
password: admin

My point:
The default password could be the same as the default username.

It isn't a default password for the "router" it is asking for. The modem, which according to an earlier post is a part of the hardware, would require the original name and password issued by the ISP when the Op first installe his internet. This would be neccessary in order to send and receive fax's etc.

Ok, I think the discussion is going far somewhere else.
Now I'm clearly stating my problem:
1. I can connect to the internet through ethernet and wireless.
2. I can connect to the internet using my laptop.
3. I want to know how to configure the modem or router so that it asks for the security key when I want to connect to the internet through my laptop.

Without having your router in front of me to see for myself. I do not know of any other way to explain things than the way it is explained in the quote.
You must open the settings page to your router. You must enter a username and password to make changes to the router's configuration. If those steps do not work for you, I'm afraid I have no other suggestions.

Thats a problem. :(

According to everything I have read that should be the address to your router.

Have you tried reseting your router?
Unplug your router and press the reset button. Hold the button pressed for over 10 seconds.

Cliff - he needs to keep the router's power supply connected while doing the reset or it won't take. Pressing the reset button, usually really tiny may need the tip of a ballpoint pen to do it, after about 5 seconds or so the LEDs will flash a few times, then it's reset back to the factory defaults.

Hmmm, I've never really noticed that. Maybe it was because I was so frustrated at everything else to notice.

Thanks for the correction Nibs :)

I very seldom need to do that myself. I can definintly see why you would need power.

That's a big 10-4 on the frustration! Been there many times myself!
