Windows Explorer file count

I have the status bar at the bottom of the list. If I switch
directories and switch back the bar will tell me how many files are in
the folder, but if I click on a file, that info goes away. I don't
know how to get it to display the file count without changing
directories and changing back.

Also XP would should you the total stats for the directory.

Click in a blank area on the right side to get an item count for the
directory. But, total size of all files seems to be something MS deleted
from the Status Bar.

(Alt) Tools » Folder Options » Display file size information in
folder tips

Then if you hover the mouse over a colder in the right-hand pane,
Windows will usually give you the total size of the folder. It won't
do that if you hover over the folder in the left-hand pane.

Does it give misleading totals if libraries are involved?

Or hit CTRL A that will give you total size.
