transfer files from XP to Windows 7

I wanted to transfer archieve .pst files from XP to Windows 7. First I could not find documents & setting. Next I created an Outlook folder in Crive. I copied all my .pst files there from Harddrive USB connection. I opened outlook and tried to retrieve my .pst files to outlook. Navigating from File\Open\Outlook Data File..I could see the archieve .pst files but they would not transfer to outlook. Have made several attempt..none worked.

I think there should be a much easier way to do this . First of all, which version of Outlook are you using on both machines?
