After buying a new Raspberry Pi which had an 8gb SD card with it, I found a second card (16gb) and wanted to use this instead. I bought a MicroSD usb card reader to let me write the operating system for the Pi to it, but windows won't recognize the reader even though it set up the driver for it when I first plugged the it into a USB port.

The micro card itself came from one of my redundant phones.

There's nothing wrong with the port as I've tried other drives in it and all work well.

Any suggestions why this is happening.

Thanks.

Unfortunately I have to answer my own question here as I borrowed a 16gb SD card from a mate and stuck it in the computer using my newly acquired usb reader and there it was bold as brass. So I can only guess that the 16gb SD card I've got is busted.

I may get a 64gb card in the near future to run the Raspberry Pi.

Thanks.
