Explorer problem fixed but how?

Had a recurring problem with Explorer, right clicking in the left pane
caused it to stop working, Googling suggested using ShellExView, disabling
non MS items one at a time till the problem cleared. It worked when I
disabled:

NVIDIA CPL Context Menu Extension Yes Context Menu NVIDIA Display
Shell Extension 314.07 NVIDIA Shell Extensions NVIDIA Corporation

How did it work and how is my graphics card still working normally with this
disabled?

The Context Menu Extension, is a way of launching the Nvidia control panel.

But, there are other ways to access the Nvidia Control Panel. You don't
need to right click the empty desktop, and look for the Nvidia option there.

So the reason things "still work", is disabling that only prevents one
of the fluffier ways of getting to the control panel from working.
You can still run this, to get there.

nvcplui.exe

When I run that on my WinXP machine, from Start : Run, I get
access to the Nvidia specific control panel. And running it
that way, doesn't rely on a ShellEx at all.

All the ShellEx affects, is *navigating* to the control panel.
The control panel itself is not disabled. The driver files are
not disabled. All else works as normal.

Why it broke your Explorer, I haven't a clue.

Thanks for the reply and explanation. When looking for a solution to this
the answer some of the time involved Nvidia drivers, mine are up to date.
