Well I found out the hard way that I can't change the desktop wallpaper, but in trying to do so I managed to change my screen resolution or something, web browsing is difficult now because the web page is bigger than my screen, can someone help me get it back the way it was before I messed it up?

Try the basics first. Minimize everything so you can see the desktop, right-click on an empty spot and select "screen resolution", now where is says resolution, pick something with smaller numbers such as 800x600 and hit Apply.
