Can anyone still see alt.comp.os.windows-8 (or *any* other
Windows8 group)?
Seems to have disappeared from my news.individual.net feed.

Hmm, wasn't paying attention to it, just figured it was dead. Hasn't
gotten any new posts here since 3/27.

Hi, Rob.

As Johnny said, the latest post I see this morning in alt.comp.os.windows-8
is from "Castor" at 6:43 am (CDT) today, 4/10/13.

My news server is provided "free" by my ISP (Grande Communications, based
here in San Marcos, TX); the actual source is Giganews, I think. That
information probably won't do you any good - unless you also subscribe to
Grande.

Since that is an alt.* NG, it was not affected by Microsoft's decision to
close its news server in 2010, or by its request to other news servers that
they discontinue carrying the microsoft.public.* newsgroups. And Microsoft
never created newsgroups to support either Win7 or Win8. The only such
support NGs were created by "volunteers" on Usenet.

Others here should be able to point you to other news serves that still
carry the Win7 and Win8 NGs.

I use news.individual.net and I can see this W8 group. No problem there.

Duh, me stupid. Had a "9" in front of the 8. No wonder it was kinda
dead. No problem with the "8" group.

I use news.eternal-september.org. It's free and alt.comp.os.windows-8
is alive and well.

Thanks, Fokke. Your reply spurred me to check deeper and it's now
fixed - there must have been a problem with a Thunderbird update
as when I refreshed the list of newsgroups, it became available
again, even though I subscribed months ago. I didn't think the
problem would be with N.I.N. as their service has been superb for
me for several years, using several different newsreaders.

Cheers,

My pleasure!
Good to see your problem has been solved!
Not so many use N.I.N. I use it for many years now and I'm very happy
with it.
I use Thunderbird as well. Never had any problem with it. Apart from the
old Outlook Express it's the best news reader I've seen until so far.
Not looking any further.
