Win 7 icons for wmv files

T

I have win7 sp1 and used to have small pictures of my wmv files.
Now they say wmv and have a small picture of what looks like balloons.
How can I get back the icons showing what is in the wmv?
Thank you for any help.

Some one or thing has altered the folder properties. You'll have to get
them back.

Click on View, Customise this folder;
Optimise for Videos, Apply, OK.

Then View, Large Icons.

Thumbnail view shows a preview of the videos.

I doubt it: I think he wants the icon to show what's in the video, which
will make each one different.
My understanding was that icons are static and have no relation to a
file's contents. Once you introduce the concept of including what's in
the video, you have a thumbnail.

Or one could describe a thumbnail as a special type of icon.

I was looking to get a thumbnail of the video.
I did find how to restore them from a forum about windows.
Thank you for the help.
I can post what they said if anybody is interested.

Or one could describe a thumbnail as a special type of icon.
Especially if one is not that aware of the distinction. If the OP meant
thumbnails, it would be nice to help him get them even if he used the
word icon.

On reading his post, it's clear that he indeed meant thumbnails.

To disambiguate: I am agreeing with you, BobbyM, and just expanding on
what you said.

Unfortunately I don't know how to help the OP...

I usually have my folders set to view details so I had no thumbnails/icons
either. Went to the little down arrow options menu in the upper right
corner, beneath the search box, and chose med/large/extra large icons. All
of these options showed thumbnails displaying the content of the video.
Choosing small icons only gave a tiny, generic icon, no vid.

If this doesn't work for you I'm stumped.

You've obviously not got the "always show icons, never thumbnails" box
ticked under Folder options.
