Is this safe? I'm not sure if I should do this... Would it be an issue for me? I'm planning on buying a Core 2 Quad Q6700 @2.66ghz, and I want to know if I should get the heatsink too or just use the one I already use for my Core 2 Duo.

I suppose you could do it, if it fits. BUT I personally would not.

Just to save a couple of $$ on a fan it is not worth it. The old fan may fail without you knowing and damage the chip, which could cost you more money.

That's what I got when I asked my co-workers, I'll just buy the heatsink, thanks!
