Whenever I open my text editor (EditPad Lite portable) I get the UAC
popup warning asking if I want to allow the program to make changes to
my computer. Is there some way to make particular programs
"trustworthy," so I don't get the popups every time I open them?

Install it in some location OTHER than Program Files. UAC doesn't like
to have user data written in that directory, which is what your
portable edition is probably trying to do.

It is not installed in Program Files. It is installed on a different drive:

D:\Portables\EditPadLIte\EditPad.exe

It is strange because I have other portables capable of making changes,
like FileZilla, in the same general location, and they don't get the
warning.

I've just tried the EditPad portable install and I don't get any UAC prompts.
I installed it onto a second drive, D:\.
Are you using the latest version? ( EditPad Lite 6.6.3. 21 March 2010 )

Since this was a new phenomenon, I restored the system to the last
restore point, which occurred with a critical update early this morning.
That fixed the EditPad problem, and I don't seem to be in need of any
updates.
