    OT: Two Network connections

When I connect my laptop to a docking station, one of connections is to a
wired network. But my wireless is still turned on. What happens when I
have two network connections both active at the same time. BTW, both
connections are to the same network, my home router actually.

Note: My Apple Macbook (no comments please) will automatically use the wired
connection over the wireless. Can I configure Windows to do the same?

    Thanks

  2. Your laptop's manufacturer may have a utility that automatically switches
from one to the other so you only have a single network connection enabled.

Toshiba at least, has a utility called "ConfigFree" that will do just that.

There are some caveats with Toshiba's utility at least. The default
settings do not allow a limited user to switch or automatically switch
between wired<>wireless. Also, the default utility will not re-enable the
de-activated network device at power down. There is a patch that changes
that behaviour but I do not know if Toshiba has posted it for public
    consumption.

This is all in XP. I am unfamiliar with how this particular utility behaves
    in Vista or Win7.
