I've been having the above error in various situations, mostly during shutdown/restarts. I've attached a crash dump. The problem has been worse since a recent clean install of Windows 7

I would suggest that you uninstall it. Then either install microsoft Security Essentials or the latest version of Avast.

1. The Uninstaller for AVAST can be found HERE
2. Uninstall Avast in Safe Mode using Avastclear, HERE
3. Run Rejzors Uninstall Utility, found HERE, in Normal Mode (removes traces avastclear doesn't) - reboot.
