I must have done something????
When I trigger the start button the box directly above the button is empty, how do I get them back??

Tried right-clicking on Start, choose Properties and then Customise to
see if everything has been unchecked?

Get what back? Your search entries? Just type them in.

You've probably cleared out your frequently used programs list. Simply use
your programs as normal, clicking start > all programs to find them, and
it'll populate again in time

Or an extension of what Gordon told him above; Properties, Start Menu,
check privacy items.
