Sleep and Hibernate

I have Win7 64-bit OS. The PC will not always go into auto sleep or hibernate. I can do it manually. If I shut down and restart - NOT just reboot, it will auto sleep or hibernate just fine (based on my settings) for about 10 days. It will then refuse to do so again until I again shut down and restart.
