Rearranged Gadgets

Every time I play game that is heavy on graphics (Return to Castle Wolfenstein, COD, Soldier of Fortune) or open GL games, my desktop gadgets gets disarranged, is there a fix for this? see attached screenshot.

I've seen this happen when the resolution is reduced, forcing all icons and gadgets to be re-arranged to fit. However, I've never seen this happen with a game before (even if the game runs at a low res).

I'll see if I can find some more info on why this happens, and will post back here if I spot anything

I have a question about compatibility modes - I never really had a need in using them - I was wondering if compatibility mode would help here - I guess it would help if I understood the need in compatibility - I have a lot of old software and never have any problems getting them to work
