Programs not responding

Why would I get a lot of programs freezing up and then "Program not responding"?

An example is right here with Forte Agent when I try to delete a bunch of
headers in a group, it happens. Or also tonight using Goggle Earth, it would
slow down and then freeze up and I'd get the not responding at the top of the
screen.

I'm using Windows 7 Professional. 64 bit, and a system with an Intel i7-930
processor with 12Gb RAM and plenty of free hard drive space. I would think
resources aren't a problem. Thanks for any insight.

It strikes me that 7 is not as brilliant as I first thought. I loaded it
onto my sons comp a week or so back (Intel MoBo with Q9550 CPU and 8GB
Corsair matched Ram) and it too is messing about something rotten. Freezing,
not showing all memory, blue screening. He is going to do a complete
reinstall today.

At the very end of this thread, it suggests...

"Changing the power options from balanced to high performance
seems to have done the trick so far."

Obviously, there are many reasons for a program to stop responding.
Like something the program depends on, to not be responding either.
A Service that isn't running when it is supposed to be,
a disk drive throwing errors in the Event log (causing grief
for a program attempting to update something). It probably
won't be a simple fix.

Did you do an upgrade of the O/S or did you wipe the HD clean and
installed the O/S fresh? If you did an upgrade, then you roll the dice.
It may come up 7 or it can come up craps.

That silly bit of 'advice' is likely to result in the deletion of
whatever happens to be in "the folder", whatever "the folder" means.

Actually, my first though was that the above advice was exactly what
rfdjr1 was already doing (or actually, select the stuff he wanted to
delete).

And I do agree with your adjective :)
