Problems with Sleep mode

Is there a known issue/defect with Sleep Mode?

When I activate sleep mode via the Keyboard (its a Logitech Wave) some times the PC does NOT come out of sleep. The Tower's reset button does not awake the PC either.

I end up having to turn off the main power toggle/switch, then re-boot the PC.
During the boot up I get a Windows did not shut down properly- do you want to boot in safe mode OR start windows normally.

Any thoughts/suggestions ?

Hi sethm1

Can you give us a quick run through of what the power settings are in your system bios?

Wakeup settings
ACPI settings
and so on

Power settings in the Control Panel:
I have "Never" for "turn off dispaly" & "put the computer to sleep'

Wake up settings?

in the BIOS:
Suspend Mode - set to S3 Only
Repost Video on S3 Resume - NO (should this be "yes")
ACPI 2.0 Support - Enabled
ACPI Support - Enabled

APM Config -
Restore on AC Power Loss - Last State

Power on by Keyboard - Space bar
(the other "Power On's) are disabled.

Thx for the input

tips and tweaks for S3 STANDBY ON YOUR VISTA
BIOS
in power management
SUSPEND MODE: you can set auto if you want. but to be dead sure, set to S3
REPOST VIDEO ON S3 RESUME: enable
ACPI 2.0 SUPPORT: enable
ACPI APIC SUPPORT: enable
Sorry sethm1 - I must not have seen anything out of the ordinary or I would have posted.

You can try enabling "Repost Video on S3 Resume" and see if that does anything.

One other thought, have you installed the latest chipset drivers and checked for BIOS updates for your motherboard?

Thx - I'll try that Repost Video setting.

Odd you mention the chipset & mobo driver.
I have been back & forth with Intel & Asus (motherboard) and so far no help/solution.

Asus happens to have chipset driver updates - but whether with theirs or Intels, if I install I lose sound from the front headphone port of my tower (a Ikonik Zaria A10).
An no idea what else is wrong.
A system restore to prior that install does not restore sound- but luckily I had
An image of my system.

There are no yellow exclamation points in The Device Manager.

As far as the BIOS – had the newest as of a month ago. Which is about as long as I have had this issue with Sleep mode.

Well no positive changes.

It seems (I so forgive me if I did not mention this earlier) to me that when I attempt to come out of sleep mode I'll hear the hard drive spin - but thats it no action seen from the monitor.

In the Power settings (Control Panel) if you have the hard disk(s) set to sleep, put them on never. Asuming you did have them sleeping, perhaps they are not always powering up quickly enough to reestablish the OS??
