Has anyone used PCMover to upgrade from XP to Windows7 on the same PC.
My copy purchased from Amazon doesn't seem to gather all the programs
I designate. There are about 20 gigs of programs and it creates a
file of only a few megs.

If you are talking about Laplink, Windows 7 Upgrade Assistant, yes I've
used it.

When you run the program it does not collect the actual files, it
collects a "library" of the programs that will be moved. When you create
the "moving van" it should be on the same drive that will be used for
the installation of Windows 7.

There are some programs that, for me, did not move without a re-install.
Photoshop CS3, Office 2007 and a couple of others, but for me the
program did what Laplink said it would do.

Look for the thread in this group titled:
XP Pro 32 bit to Windows 7 pro 64 bit, in-place upgrade, by me on 11/9/09.

My name is Phillip and I work for Laplink. Bob is correct, PCmover Windows 7 Upgrade Assistant creates an index of the files, applications, settings, etc. you want moved to Windows 7. As long as the applications appear in your add/remove programs, PCmover will be able to find it. PCmover saves your data in a part of the registry that is not touched when installing the new operating system as kong as you haven't reformatted the drive.

You may have to re-register some of your applications (i.e. Office 2007) after they've been moved, however, PCmover should be able to move all applications.
