OT - Win8 image restore

Has anyone who's running Win8 managed to restore a disk image ?
I've tweaked Win8 to get it to boot to a sensible desktop and
start menu and I saved the disk image. Now when I try to restore
that image by booting the Win8 dvd and choosing Repair > Restore Image
it scans for saved images but only sees VHD (Win7) images and not
the new VHDX (Win8) image.

Hypothesis:
Long after you have gotten frustrated and given up on Windows 8,
Microsoft will finally remember to bring their Restore Image software
up to date.

It's on NIN (news.individual.net), which is not free (nor is it
expensive).

I think I have read that Albasani and Eternal-September, which are
free, carry it as well.

I dunno... but I did create an image with Paragon Drive Backup v9 and
restored with Paragon Drive Copy v11 and that worked great.

Yes, a 3rd-party imaging solution is probably a better long-term bet,
too. There are plenty of free ones around.

I use ES, and yes, they have alt.comp.os.windows-8. They also
have alt.nl.os.windows8. I subscribe to neither so can not speak
about the content.
