network icon - vs XP

All of our laptops are running XP/SP3 -
Wife is getting a new laptop at school - currently XP - probably will be
Win7.
So grabbed a W7 laptop from ebay to follow along and learn..
Bought a Dell E6400 - 2.8Ghz 4GB 250GB just for ref - running W7 HP -

I don't think I'm going to like W7... too many little things gone or made
more difficult.

ie - the old network icon on the bar - nice, flashed, indicated "getting
IP" - ALL useful
now... the W7 version just sits there - sure, you can click thru to see
what's happening,
but was just wasy to look down and see the "activity" blinking...

A freeware program called> NetworkIndicator <will put the icon back.
Google for it.

In that case, you better pray that she doesn't get Windows EIGHT!!!

No big deal on Win8

Classic Shell (or other similar utilities) will turn it (essentially) to
Win7

I guess W7 could be thought of as the lesser of two evils :)

Disclosure - I like 7 fine, and I don't even mind 8, since I hardly use
it...

Windows 7 Mainstream Support ends January 12, 2015 and Extended Support
on January 14, 2020.

You have enough time to master it.
