Is this normal?

When I open a page in Windows 7 Home premium and leave it inactive for a
short space of time it closes of its own accord and displays the words
'Emrys Davies Locked' and 'Switch User', together with a small icon which,
if clicked, opens the window again. I sense that this normal, but I would
appreciate clarification.

Normal if you have the screen saver set to 1 minute and that upon waking go to the log in screen. This looks like what is happening. Right click the desktop and click Personalize. Click screen saver (lower right) then check your screen saver properties. It probably has the "On Resume, display logon screen" dialog box checked. Uncheck it.

It now appears to me that any intermittent movement of the mouse cursor
stops the window closing abruptly, so it may be that I have answered my own
question.

Check your screensaver timeout and make sure it's not set to an
extremely low value.

Thanks for that. It was on one minute and I have changed it to three
minutes. Easy now that I know that the change is possible.

Three minutes? What's the panic?

I would have recommended 45-60 minutes, but it sounds like you've
found a value that works for you.

Thanks everyone. 45 minutes it is. This was completely new to me having
only had my brand new HP Pavilion for a few days and not having set eyes on
Win7 or WLM before.

Hey don't worry:) Most of us are using Win7 and WLM for the first time:)

You will find some good advice and helpful people here and I for one am very
grateful!

Ophelia, I find the search facility most helpful particularly if I use words
like 'Create', 'Recovery' or 'Search', but is there a list/index hidden
somewhere which itemizes the main eventualities or am I expecting too much?

I don't know, but I know a few people here who will:))

I am not too sure what you mean about 'main evenualities' Unless... what
you are looking for is in 'godmode'?

Anyone?

It would be a ready made all in one alphabetical index which would guide me
to whatever programmes are available, such as Repair Disc, Recovery Disc
Creation (which I have found) and many others, but I think that I may be
asking too much. It just crossed my mind that I may be missing something.

Sounds like it to me. I have it now but I followed the path given here.

Please could someone post it again for Emrys?
