Ooops... forgot to add that in your newsreader you need to use the
following settings:

news server: 127.0.0.1
port: whatever port you specified in the bridge software,
default is 119.

If that's meant as a general "you" and not Roy personally, yes, you can.
You'll see almost everything you'd see on the forum page. You can answer
(reply), post new threads, and see those replies and posts in the forum
posted to, and in your newsreader.

Are you able to reply to threads using the bridge?

As I said earlier, yes it's certainly possible. I do it every day, and
I've been doing it for months.

When I try to reply to a thread, I get the following message: "This
account only supports email recipients. Continuing will ignore
newsgroups." It may be a Thunderbird issue, but I'm able to post to
these newsgroups easily, so I'm not sure why this problem occurs on the
Microsoft newsgroups.

The Community Bridge doesn't access Microsoft newsgroups, rather it provides
a newsgroup-like interface to the Microsoft forums. You have to have an
active MS Live account, and that would include your email address. Not too
sure if there would be an issue with Thunderbird or other non-MS
email/newsreaders, but I wouldn't think so.

No, you're right--there isn't such an issue. For example, I use Forte
Agent 6.0 and the NNTP Bridge without a problem.

Yes I'm able to reply to existing message threads, and post new messages
if I desire. It doesn't matter if I'm using PostBox, or my Portable
Thunderbird set-up. All the bridge software does is interfaces with the
forums and provides a NNTP style server for any newsreader to be able to
read or write messages in those forums.

The only drawback is that this only works with the Microsoft forums and
no other. It would be nice if one could use it with other forums, but
unfortunately that isn't the case.

I use PostBox most of thew time and on occasion Portable Thunderbird
that i have on a thumb drive. I don't have any problems with either
setup. I have even toyed around with other newsreaders Forte Agent,
Pan, XNews, and Opera to be specific and haven't had any problems with
them either.
