Help connecting Samsung Slash cell fone to PC

I have a Samsung Slash (sph-m310-01) cell fone and a Acer Extensa laptop
computer running win 7 home premuim. I've not been able to connect the two
using a data link cable(Samsung APCBS10UBE). When I look in Device Manage,
Universal Serial Bus Contoller, USB Composite Device. It states, Device not
Recognized. USB Root Hub (2 ports), unknown device. I've tried using both
Samsung version 3 and 7 software for the hook-up, no go. I've also tried
connecting using WindowsMobileDevice v6.1 with no luck. One thing that does
work, is that the cell fone recharges it's battery when connected to the
computer using the data link cable.
Helpful suggestions needed.....Thanks

Check with Samsung for a Windows 7 driver?

Have you installed the software with the phone plug in? If so, unplug the
phone, uninstall the software, reboot, reinstall the software without the
phone plug in, the software should ask you to plug the phone when it's
ready.

It works that way with my Motorola cell phone... and many other USB
devices.
