The helpfile in WE doesn't say how this is done. How do I get the top
toolbar back in W-7 in WE?

Thank you once again for providing us with all that valuable, helpful,
and pertinent information! You're a gem, as always!
What other information is needed? It's a HP w/W-7. WE is WindowsExplorer
as most people know. The toolbar is the toolbar and has the buttons on it.
The one MS decided to hide and let newbie's do without. Oh, and the "lock
toolbar" doesn't work in WE. The toolbar with it's buttons keeps vanishing.
Buttons are the things you click on. Vanishing means the toolbar disappears
or becomes hidden which means out of sight.

Sorry, I'm not going to play the WNYB game with you, except to tell you
that NOBODY calls Windows Explorer "WE".

Perhaps you should heed your own advice. I've been in this business for

Well as an MS Engineer for a global firm with an installed base of 140,000
machines, you're the first I've heard call "Windows Explorer" "WE".
"Windows Explorer" is only (commonly) shortened to merely "Explorer" while
"Internet Explorer" is shortened to "IE".

So when talking to a group of 5 local people who may or may not have called
it "WE", have fun. if you expect any assistance from a global distribution
such as Usenet you may consider either writing something out in it's
entirety or only using industry standard acronyms.

You're right - how did that happen? I started off saying I wasn't going
to play, and then...

Thanks for the reality check.

Her sheer stupidity lures everyone in, they can't believe she is really
having 400, or 500 problems that no one else has ever encountered.

Yeah. When I read her post, I had a few initials of my own: "WTF is WE?"
:)

And I believe in the 12,327,602 replies she has received, and certainly
elsewhere in this NG, the "secret" of the toolbar in Windows explorer
has been revealed to the acolytes.

I also had a WTF moment on SysRec in her recent posts, but it only took
me a moment or two to guess what she meant by that one.

Interesting that someone who hates it when people use *standard*
technical jargon seems quite willing to introduce nonstandard jargon of
her own :)

Do you mean the classic style menu bar that has the File, Edit, Tools, Help
items displayed on it?

If so, when you open Windows Explorer, do you see the "Organize" button top
left with a small arrow head pointing downwards?

Click on the arrow which will produce a drop-down list and move down to
Layout, then move across and put a tick against Menu Bar.

Give it up now. NO ONE calls Windows Explorer "WE" except, evidently,
you and your friends.

WinEx, sometimes.
Been there and read it.
But you evidently did not UNDERSTAND it.

I must admit I do read some threads when Valorie has posted just for my
own amusement. ;-)

When I first switched this machine to W-7 I wondered about that too. I asked
here and a couple places and no one could understand what I was asking
about. They kept trying to offer other ways to do the same things that menu
does. I finally found it by lots of searching.
Recently found that you can also get the tool bar to show temporarily by
pressing the Alt. key if you for some reason do not want it to always show.
I could not understand why they "hid it" in the first place.
