I was just having the same thoughts.

I won't be able to add it to the user profile bar unfortunately, as space really is at a premium there. Ideally it would be nice to have the version of W7 listed there, along with a few other things - but I tried it out and it took up too much space and made the site look very sparse.

What you could do is add it to the "other info" box on the system profile page - that way everyone would be able to see it with a single click
