Confusing: File -> Save As

One of the most confusing interfaces of MS-Win7 is:
-> File -> Save As

IMO there are a maximum of 3 possible arguments:
FileName, path, possibly: the format.

Now for a WLM fetched item MS-Win7 selects a default-path
which in this case is
Libraries/Documents/
and shows its sub-directories

Sometimes it provides a default Filename, which can be
over-ridden, but now I can't see any default FileName,
nor <line> to enter my chosen name.

If I hit <enter> it apparently saves to a FileName which
is unknown to me.

Browsing with my decades-old DOS:mc finds 2 copies
[with names that I didn't select] in
C:\USERS\EAS\DOCUME~1

How the hell do YOU save a file so that you can locate it
by a suitable ID and fetch it later when you need it.
1. you'd want an ID that suits YOU
2. you'd want it to be where YOU could convenietly find
it, based on a path name that YOU had selected.
------------
Oh an even more confusing behaviour [not now with WLM]
is when I enter one of the subdirectories of the path
that it has chosen for SaveAs, and select a filename;
it reports <file with that name is not found>; whereas
<file with that name already exists ...> could make sense.

== TIA.

Are you trying to save an attachment from WLM? If that's the case, you
should post your question in microsoft.public.windows.live.mail.desktop.
Maybe if you described exactly what you were trying to do - it would be
easier to follow along and try to duplicate it, to see if you're missing
something.

I've managed to right click on the file, select print, and choose Adobe PDF
Converter, which later can be saved to a text file... More than one way to skin a
Krazy Kat....
