Another BSOD

Howdy! Not to give away any surprises, but.. I've got some BSOD issues.

A bit of a background I guess-
I put together this PC back around November, and everything was running smoothly until about January. I would get a BSOD every now and then, and it got progressively worse into February. I had a strong feeling it may have been a driver issue, but was also worried about it being a RAM or HD issue. I can't really remember all I did, but one day the crashes stopped.

Now, recently, they've started up again. I've updated my graphics driver, no change. I haven't swapped any hardware. The BSODs are seemingly random - it can happen within 5 minutes of loading up, or 30 minutes, or hours. What I seem to be doing is random, also, so I can't pinpoint it on a game.

Other info that may be helpful -
-Firefox has been crashing every now and then since recently (though I believe it's the 6.00 Beta, so it may be unrelated)
-I've had a Windows Update that fails every single time I attempt to install it (Security Update for Visual C++)
-I'm using MSE as my antivirus

I'll attach a .rar with all the dumps starting from January to the most recent. I'll also have the things suggested in the "Helpful Things to Do" post as well :p My specs are also set as well!

Thanks for any help in advance

Motherboard: ASUSTeK Computer INC. M4A77TD (AM3)
Memory: 8.00 GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 669MHz (9-9-9-24)

This machine? Could you also list the brand and part # of your RAM chips. And the voltage from BIOS.

Sorry about that, I totally forgot to be honest. Let's see...

G. Skill F3-12800CL9D-4GBRL

I actually don't know what the voltage is at, but I know the voltage on the chip package is 1.5v - I don't change those sorts of settings and I don't overclock, so I'm assuming it's around there. Sorry about that

That's probably something I really should know :p

To be honest I don't know anything about it except that that information is often needed so I'll ask it and hopefully it helps those who can help.

Hi Frisky Fox and Welcome to The Forum.

Your RAM timings look good to me, and a matched set! Excellent!! That's not to say they might not need 'tweaking' though!

STOP 0x00000019: BAD_POOL_HEADER
Usual causes:
Device driver.

STOP 0x0000003B: SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION.
Usual causes:
System service, Device driver, graphics driver, ?memory.

Latest:
STOP 0x0000007E: SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED
Usual causes:
Insufficient disk space, Device driver, Video card, BIOS, Breakpoint with no debugger attached, Hardware incompatibility, Faulty system service, Memory, 3rd party remote control.

Your latest dump file lists ntkrnlmp.exe as the probable cause. This is a Windows System file and for it to be the cause of your crash is highly unlikely.
Old and incompatible drivers can and do cause issues with Windows 7, often giving false error codes. Random stop codes can also indicate hardware issues.

As a Priority:

sptd.sys Sun Oct 11 21:55:14 2009 The sptd.sys driver is notorious for causing BSOD's with Windows 7. It's a driver used and installed along with Daemon Tools and Alcohol 120 which you'll also have to uninstall.
Then use the correct (32bit or 64bit) download from Duplex Secure - Downloads to uninstall the SPTD.SYS driver.
Make sure to select the uninstall button! DO NOT SELECT INSTALL!!

Virtual Drives
Some alternatives to DT/Alcohol for drive emulation that do not use SPTD.SYS (In no order).
DVDFab. Very small at just over 1Mb installed and can emulate up to 18 drives.(My preference).
PowerISO (The program is a trial but the drive emulation is free forever).
Virtual CloneDrive

Outdated Drivers. Update:

netr28ux.sys Mon May 25 05:38:17 2009 Ralink RT2870 series USB802.11n Wireless Adapter Driver (Yours may be a different Mfr.).

GEARAspiWDM.sys Mon May 18 13:17:04 2009 Gear Software CD-ROM Class Filter Driver v4.015.1 (Feb 2010). Also comes as part of iTunes

wacommousefilter.sys Fri Feb 16 18:12:17 2007 Wacom(tablet) Mouse Filter. If this does cause issues and you don't use your mouse with the tablet, then many people have found that disabling it by changing the file extension hasn't caused problems.

Drivers with Updates:

Rt64win7.sys Thu Aug 20 17:05:06 2009 Realtek HD Audio R2.63

Let us know how it goes. If you get further problems with blue screens, attach your new dump files and details and we'll move on from there.
(And THANKS on filling in your system specs. Saves a lot of post questions and guesswork!!)

Hi,

In your bios if you have a setting for XMP (Extreme Memory Profile) set it to enabled, it will configure the memory correctly for you :) Being a AMD based system the setting could well be called EPP.

Thanks to TrainableMan, Elmer and Nemesis!

No problem, I like to make things easier for the people I come to when I need help - it's the least I can do. It'll be lame to get rid of the convenience from DaemonTools, but I'll try out your suggestion - not a big fan of PowerISO.

I do use my tablet regularly - exclusively, in fact. I can't believe how outdated the driver is though! I could have sworn I updated it when I installed it. Same goes for my linksys usb, but I can never seem to find good support for it anyway.

Thank you for the help, and I've got all the driver issues (save Linksys) taken care of! Hopefully this will clear up the issues, and so far so good. But considering how random in nature the crashes are, time will tell. As long as the chance of hardware being at fault is low, I'll be happy. I can't afford anything new :p

In case I get another crash I'll keep you all posted. For some reason I feel like my ancient tablet was the culprit, or DaemonTools, but we'll see

Whelp... it seems that it wasn't DT or my tablet! I was listening to music just now, and noticed Windows Aero seemed to stop working (the task bar turned opaque). A few minutes later, fuzzy screen boom BSOD! And it was working so wonderfully all day!

I've got some updated minidump files. Two from last night which occured after my initial post, and the one from just now.

Edit: And yet another just now, this time Bad Pool Header. Hmm

Well I have used Daemon Tools for years without issue but it is easy enough to uninstall for testing. You did download the 64bit Duplex Secure's program to uninstall the SPTD.SYS driver after uninstalling Daemon tools?

Once things are finally stable your could always reinstall it and see if the problems return. Same with the Tablet if no newer drivers are available. Logical right?

Yup, I did all of it (except I realized I didn't update realtek, but I did so and still having issues). I can't really do anything about my tablet if it is the case as I have no/can't afford any other peripherals. It's getting so lame, but I'm more worried that it's a hardware issue now..sigh.

I have quite a few more crash dumps, it was on a roll tonight. I was wondering if it was some sort of malware possibly, but MSE came up clean and I can't seem to finish a scan with Malware Bytes

You can run Malwarebytes in Safe Mode. (Repeatedly press F8 after the beep!)

Outdated Drivers. Update:

netr28ux.sys Mon May 25 05:38:17 2009 Ralink RT2870 series USB802.11n Wireless Adapter Driver (Yours may be a different Mfr.).

GEARAspiWDM.sys Mon May 18 13:17:04 2009 Gear Software CD-ROM Class Filter Driver v4.015.1 (Feb 2010). Also comes as part of iTunes

Drivers with Updates:

Rt64win7.sys Thu Aug 20 17:05:06 2009 Realtek HD Audio R2.63

Don't worry about the Wacom Mouse Driver unless it gets specifically named.

Hmm.. odd. I updated those drivers, except for the Ralink link (I have Linksys, but yes). I've gotten the correct Linksys drivers, but when I install them, it doesn't look like they're updated, it still says 2009.

Trying Realtek again now. If all of the drivers get updated ok, what's the next possible issue? Or is it most definitely the drivers (as it seems)? I've got Gear installed as well. Let's hope something goes right!

I suspect we need Nemesis on your case to make sure your ram is set correctly. But having old or 'unfriendly' drivers on your system will not help matters. He'll be about later.

Probably a wild card! You built the system yourself. Did you use the cable that came with the HDD or a.n.other? I ask because I had no end of problems with the cable my hard drive was supplied with. Also might be worth reseating your RAM.

Oh, I forgot to reply to this! I tried looking in my bios but I couldn't find any settings for EPP

Once I get the opportunity, I'll reseat the RAM as Elmer suggested and just clean out the dust. My brother was in charge of the HDD as he had a few of the drives in bulk, so I got those parts off him and such. I'm assuming it's the one that came with it, however

We'll just have to do it the manual way then. Not a biggie, grabbing you mobo manual so I can talk you through it. :)

Ahck, sorry for not being around! Something came up that ate the past few days away and I wasn't able to get around.

If you're still up for giving a little walkthrough that'd be awesome. For the sake of it, I went checking through and I have almost all settings at "auto" if that's any help.

Out of curiosity, could my DirectX drivers possibly be at fault? I've had a little trouble with a game that had a few issues, and then when I tried switching from anti-aliasing off to 2x, it no longer loads. While trying to figure it out, I learned about dxdiag.exe. Apparently I have DirectX 11, but when checking out 11 comparable gfx cards, my HD 4600 wasn't listed - any possibility this is related or would even cause issues?

Ok, Windows 7 has directx 11 support but you card only support 10.1, this isn't a problem. A walk through fir yiur memory setting won't be a problem.. You need to go to your bios and find and set these timings 9 CL 9 Trcd 9 tRP 25 tRas 40 tRC 2T Command rate. Can you also set your dram frequency to 1600. If after setting these, if you have any instabilities can you turn up the ddr voltage to 1.65V.

Sigh, I made a nice long post and got a crash and lost it =/

So in short I'll put this:

For starters, sorry for another delay, I hope it hasn't been too long

Now, I'll just say I'm not totally confident with tinkering with hardware, especially when it comes to heat/voltage related things - I'm good with assembly and compatibility checks and such, and software, but my brother handles electrical stuff - so this has just been worrying me, hahaha. Anyway, I had finally found the menu for mem timing configuration. In the menu, there are two sets of configs - both have different numbers. Do I target the first one, the second, or both? Do these represent each memory slot? The first one had numbers like 11-11 etc. and that seems rather high compared to the numbers I've seen floating around elsewhere

I'm a little stuck on this part, and sorry for being so slow. It feels like the BSODs are getting a little worse and I'm at a loss. Should I post more dumps in case? It's just so strange since I hadn't had any problems since February :p

Anyway all this help is appreciated, and any guidance with the ram configurations would be amazing
