Action Center Notification

Often when I reboot I get that tray icon notification asking me if I want to
change my Windows Update settings. No...I don't! So, how can I keep this
annoying tray icon from popping up?

Go into Action Center in Control Panel, click on Maintenance to open it up, and scroll down to "Check for updates." Is
there an option there to turn off messages for this event?

I have it set up so that I am notified when there are new updates...so does
turning this option off turn off all WU notifications as well?

No, just the notification that you need to change your settings. Or at least, that's the way it works on my laptop, and
that's how my WU is set up also.

Actually, I may have misled you. When you first open Action Center, look in the left column and click on "Change Action
Center settings." That will bring up the "Turn messages on or off" screen. Under Security, I have everything checked
except "Windows Update," and under Maintenance, the only one unchecked is "Windows backup" (I don't use it).
My Windows Update settings are "Check for updates but let me choose to download and install them." That seems to prevent
WU from downloading and installing some updates on shut down or reboot, like it will on other settings.

If the settings you choose don't work for you, then you can always change them back. It's not like if you change one
that it's then chiseled in stone

them" and that never installs without my approval. It only installs when

I had mine set like that for the longest time (and still do on my XP box), but for some reason, Win7 downloaded updates,
then installed them when I shut down at the end of the day. This had happened two or three times before I changed it to
the current setting.

I'm just referring to the icon on the tray that keeps coming up even though
my settings are not changed. It's fine when there's an update. But who needs
it when there is nothing to update?
